What is better than apple pie? Not much except maybe our old-fashioned apple crisp. A beloved recipe handed down from CUTCO’s own graphic designer’s grandmother – this crisp is so simple to prepare and it makes a wonderful dessert for a holiday buffet. Serve warm in the baking dish with a big bowl of whipped cream.
- 10 c all-purpose apples, peeled, cored and sliced
- 1 c white sugar
- 1 Tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ½ tsp nutmeg
- ½ c water
- 1 c quick-cooking oats
- 1 c all-purpose flour
- 1 c packed brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp baking soda
- ½ c butter, melted
Preheat oven to 350° F (175° C).
Place the sliced apples in a 9x13-inch pan. Mix the white sugar, flour, ground cinnamon and nutmeg together and sprinkle over the apples. Pour water evenly over all.
Topping: Combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda and melted butter together. Crumble evenly over the apple mixture.
Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 45 minutes.
